Uniform contributes to the values and ethos of the school.

At Montgomery Academy, we believe that high standards in all areas - however small they may seem - help create a positive, respectful and focused learning environment.  Uniform is one of those key areas.  When students take pride in their appearance and follow our uniform expectations, it sets the tone for their attitude to learning, encourages self-discipline, and fosters a shared sense of belonging and school identity. Additionally, high standards and expectations with regards to uniform and appearance further supports and promotes SMART at Montgomery Academy, and how we expect all students to act in a safe, mature, ambitious, respectful and thoughtful manner at all times.

We've found that when we all pay attention to the details - like wearing uniform correctly - it sends a clear message that we value our school, we value each other, and we are here to learn.  It also helps staff focus on teaching and supporting students rather than dealing with preventable distractions or repeated reminders.

Maintaining consistent expectations also ensures fairness.  When everyone is held to the same standards, it prevents confusion and ensures that no student feels singled out.  Uniform, in this sense, becomes not just about clothing but about building a culture of respect, responsibility and readiness.

We are committed to supporting all our students to meet these expectations and encourage families to contact us if there are any challenges or concerns.  Together, we can uphold the high standards that contribute to a safe, successful and supportive school environment for everyone.

Progress Tutors will ensure that students for whom they are responsible comply with school uniform requirements at all times. Class teachers will reinforce these expectations with their classes and insist that nothing inappropriate is worn during lessons.

With regards to all of the above, members of the SLT reserve the right to challenge what they consider to be unacceptable in terms of uniform and standards.

Non Compliance

Adhering to our school uniform policy is a crucial aspect of maintaining a positive and disciplined learning environment. Students have the opportunity during the morning fire lines to correct any uniform issues, with the full support of their progress tutors. However, it's important to be clear that consistent non-compliance will have consequences. Any student not adhering to the uniform expectations will receive an incorrect uniform consequence mark on ClassCharts. Accumulating three incorrect uniform marks in a single day will result in a same-day, one-hour after-school detention. Our aim is to ensure all students are presentable and ready to learn, and we appreciate your cooperation in upholding these standards.

If a uniform is lost, stolen or damaged or if a parent is having financial difficulties, it is important that Montgomery Academy is made aware of such circumstances so that due consideration can be given to what has happened. Such matters will of course be treated with due discretion.

Year 11 Blue Tie

At Montgomery Academy we pride ourselves on being SMART: Safe, Mature, Ambitious, Thoughtful and Respectful. As role models for the school, it is the Year 11 cohort that embodies this ethos for all to see.

In recognition of their efforts, each Year 11 student has the opportunity to earn their Year 11 Blue Tie which they can proudly wear as part of their uniform if they fulfil a series of criteria. Students have a chance to secure their blue tie every 3 weeks, at which point a report is run.  At this 3-week check in, a student will receive their tie if they fulfil the following success criteria:

  • 0 behaviour points
  • No mobile phone confiscations
  • 98% Attendance
  • No late to lesson marks
